“Vaishnava Jana To” is a bhajan written by the famous poet Shri Narsinh Mehta. This bhajan (devotional song) was originally written in the Gujarati language in the 15th century, but it became more popular during the life time of Mahatma Gandhi. It was rendered as a famous bhajan in his Sabarmati Ashram by eminent vocalists and instrumentalists. This spiritual and devotional song was also popular among freedom fighters throughout India during the independence movement. This devotional song speaks about the life, ideals and beliefs of Vaishnava jana, which literally means followers of Vaishnavism (Vaishnava refers to the followers of Lord Vishnu).
