Sattvic Diet

You Are What You Eat!

Sattvic diet is a diet based on foods in ayurvedic and yogic literature that contain the quality (guna) sattva. A sattvic diet emphasises on seasonal foods and is meant to include foods and eating habits that are “pure, essential, natural, vital, energy-containing, clean, conscious, true, honest and wise”.

According to Ayurveda, there is a connection between how we eat, act, our health and mental makeup. The basic nature of the mind is to be calm, happy, and creative or sattvic. We have a choice to respond and not react to circumstances through a good balance of sattva.

A sattvic diet can also exemplify Ahimsa, the practice of non-violence, or not causing harm to other living things, which is one reason that yogis often follow a vegetarian diet.

Sattvic Cooking is a lifestyle choice that brings about a harmony between the food we eat and our thoughts and actions. The principles of Ayurveda play a key role in this way of cooking. Sattvic recipes promote a sense of well being and positivity in our everyday life.

Sattvic recipes are devoid of meat, fish, eggs, alcohol, onion and garlic. The recipes are made using fresh, seasonal and local ingredients that seamlessly integrate the “sattvic” and modern ways of life.
